I put arm & hammer baking soda in my cookie batter, realizing later it tasted horrible. What does it mean when a cookie recipe says to add baking powder?
my bad…my question:What is the difference between the baking powder in foods and the baking powder fridge fresheners?
Baking powder and baking soda are 2 different items. Baking powder, normally double acting, is actually baking soda plus cream of tartar. They are both used as leavening agents in cookies and cakes. While they don’t taste good raw, I rarely notice their taste in the finished baked product. If I do notice it in the finished product, I probably use less the next time.
As far as the fridge fresheners, I use my old box of baking soda. If they’re actually selling fridge fresheners, they’re just trying to make an extra buck.

people often place an opened box of soda in their fridge to absorb odors therefore it should not be used for baking. only soda stored in a cabinet should be used for baking purposes. sorry you ruined your cookies, live and learn.
soda/powder are two different things.
