What kind of baking soda should i use to brush my teeth?

I've heard that baking soda from the box can scratch your teeth. Is their any other baking soda that I can use that will not scratch my teeth?
Thanks in advance!

I'd have thought toothpaste would be a better idea as that'll kill the bacteria as well as get rid of the acid (job of the soda). Have seen some toothpastes based on soda, but assume they have the other stuff in there too.

you can use regular baking soda, but it tastes nasty…They make several toothpastes with it in there…even arm & hammer makes some. It doesnt work any better than anything else either!

as a dental assistant, i would say that anything with baking soda is not great for your teeth because it takes away a microscopic layer of enamel everytime you brush. if you have a lot of build up and calculus then perhaps once in a while. i would suggest my favorite crest pro health. it leaves that good clean feeling.=)

It does not matter what kind of baking soda you use, they are all the same.

It does not scratch your teeth and I actually never heard of this. Just make a paste out of it with water and apply to your toothbrush.

Personally I find the taste to be disgusting and prefer to buy a toothpaste that has baking soda

Baking soda will not scratch your teeth. Also the best tooth paste in the world Is:: dip your brush in HYDROGEN PEROXIDE and then in to baking soda, and then brush.. If everyone did this there would be no need for dentist.. Well ,maybe if you got teeth knocked out. Also all baking soda's are the same . The cheaper the better

Over the years, people have mistakenly concluded that baking soda is highly abrasive. It’s true that patients may perceive a slightly gritty texture in toothpastes with baking soda, but the fact is, baking soda crystals are soft and won’t scratch tooth enamel. Baking soda is a mild polishing agent which removes superficial stains. When mixed with water, much of baking soda breaks down into microscopic particles that get into areas of tooth enamel other toothpastes can’t reach. These baking soda particles then dissolve deeper stains. Bottom line: Studies prove baking soda is actually the least abrasive polishing agent as well as highly soluble in water, making it gentle on enamel, dentin and soft tissue.

Keep in mind, however, that the source of the above information is from Arm & Hammer, makers of baking soda. But in this case, the information appears reliable.
